Minjae Lee (Greno)

WELCOME TO ANOTHER INSTALLMENT OF ERIN"S FAVORITE ARTISTS!!
Another artist that I've been following for a long time is Minjae Lee. I even once created a large chalk mural of one of his pieces. I think his use of design combined with portraiture is really compelling, and was a HUGE inspiration for my work around 3 years ago. The detail level is insane ! More images if you read down bellow. Definitely worth a look!

Jeremy Geddes

Next in my series on artists who inspire me is one of my favorite painters if not my favorite painter is Jeremy Geddes. He is able to create perfect realism with seemingly no references. He also has a bloodspot! http://jeremygeddesart.blogspot.com I think in terms of skill he is probably the most skilled painter alive. I would count myself very lucky if I was ever able to achieve this level of proficiency. He is a constant inspiration and if you don't know about him look bellow and get your mind blown. Seriously. Go look.

Erik Jones

Erik Jones is another artist that I've been following for a really long time. I'm really interested in a combination between abstract and realism. I've always wanted to incorporate more abstract images into my work but it's very intimidating. Recently Erik Jones has been combining sculptural elements into his paintings which I've also been working towards. Except Jones is managing it much more successfully than me!

This image on the left is the first piece of Erik Jones' work that I ever saw and I was instantly in love.

Tahiti Pehrson

ANOTHER INSTALLMENT OF ERIN"S FAVORITE ARTISTS:
Recently I've become very interested in paper cuts.I have some larger scale paper cut projects I'm hoping to make over the summer. When i was looking at different artists the one that came out on top for me was Tahiti Pehrson. She creates great large scale paper cuts that include interactions with light and are also impressively detailed. The way the shadows mix with the monochromatic paper is an awesome combination. Pehrson also has a great eye for very mathematical looking design. I posted some more work down bellow, check it out!

Juz Kitson

For the next installment in artists Erin's currently watching: Here's another bad ass female artist, Juz Kitson. This time its sculpture work. If you saw one of the paintings i finished for my midway, this may look a little familiar. I'm really interested in the forms Kitson creates out of porcelain! I also hope to follow her style more in the future. Anyway her art is super awesome... check it out!

Brendan Monroe

Inspirational artist #3!!! Brendan Monroe creating 3 dimensions with just line! I was really excited to find him because he's using imagery and techniques that I really want to draw on for my own work. I also enjoy his monochromatic color pallets.

SGC International Chicago, Illinois Day 6-7

On sunday Su and I planed on flying home. However, our connecting flight from Chicago to Reno was canceled and after trying to get on a few other flights we were stuck with a 30 hour delay! In addition our luggage somehow left without us and Chicago was having a snowstorm.  We ended up deciding to use the day to go to the Chicago Art Museum which was beyond amazing! Here are a few of my favorite pictures.

SCG International Knoxville, Tennessee Day 5

Saturday was the last day of the SGC
conference. The big event of the day was open
portfolio. There were four different sessions I
which the whole large floor would be filled with
different artists at each table. Su and I even
participated! It was pretty overwhelming but
here are a few of my favorite images.

SGC International Knoxville, Tennessee Day 4

Friday was demo day~! I was able to
make it to four different demos. I'm going to try
to go through each in a step by step process. The
demo's i went too were called:

'One + One = Infinity' a demo about creating full
color intaglio etchings with just two plates by
Art Werger.

'3-Ring Circuits: Creating Interactive Sculptures
with Paper Circuits' by Erik Waterkotte.

'INK Version 2.0: The Creative Potential Of
Advanced Ink Technologies' by Brian Gonzales.

'Another Sphere: Alternative Papermaking' a
demo about creating paper using different food products by Amanda Berry

SGC International Knoxville, Tennessee Day 3

On our third day at SGC

International the first thing we both
went to was the keynote address by
Hideki Kimura. In his talk Kimura
talked about an exhibit he recently
co-curated called "Redefinging the
 Multiple: Thirteen Japanese
Printmakers" an exhibit currently
touring the United States.

Then I went to a demo about how to create your own DIY exposure unit which was surprisingly simple. All you need is:

A piece of cardboard that is 4 inches larger on both sides than you want your exposure bed to be. (this is the piece that looks gray in the photo)

Then you need to adhere  piece of plywood that is 4 inches smaller on each side into the center of the cardboard

Next you cover the plywood in a large piece of a clear durable plastic material. This should be adhered to the cardboard on two sides to make a stable corner.

Then you get out some sort of air compressor that can create your vacuum seal. This should be carefully taped along the side of the cardboard with the tube just poaching underneath the plastic. make sure there is a tight seal. and your bed is completely finished.

SGC International Knoxville, Tennessee Day 2

The second day of SGC in Knoxville was much more hectic we started the day with an expedition to find glassine for the member portfolio exchange. Below is an image of my submission. It's an intaglio etching with aquatint titled 'Worm Food'.

SGC International Knoxville, Tennissee Day 1

So My hope is to try and chronicle the seven day expedition that was SGC this year one day at a time. So day one was March 17th. As you can probably imagine day one was pretty much just a travel day. Luckily Tennessee has quite a few public sculptures to walk around and see!

Right in the center of downtown, Knoxville supports a rotating sculpture garden. These are a few of the current works. my personal favorite being this blue motorhome baby carriage.
